About Me

FamilyMy Story

My husband Jay and I have been married for twelve years. We have had three birthing experiences. Our first birth was an 18-week stillborn with a doctor. Our second birth I had severe toxemia. I started out with one doctor, but after a shift change I had another doctor who delivered our beautiful baby girl. For our third pregnancy we decided to go with a midwife. That didn’t work out either, because when I went into labor there was no midwife on staff that day. I wound up with another doctor. During my 30 hours of labor there was another shift change, and I ended up with my midwife after all — and I know for a fact she is the best in the business. She delivered a healthy baby boy. Needless to say, I was not an easy patient.

I believe that if I had had the opportunity to have a birth doula my three deliveries would have been more relaxed and less stressful because I would not have had to deal with reacquainting myself with new people every shift change. My doula would have been there from beginning to end. This is the reason why I have become a bereavement doula and a birthing doula.
